PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE | FEBRUARY 15, 2021
Emergency Broadband Benefit
Emergency Broadband Benefit for low-income residents that they will administer this year.
The EBB program is a new $3.2 billion program to help low-income households with the cost of broadband services and certain connected devices during the COVID-19 emergency. The program will provide a discount of up to $50 per month toward broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for those on Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute $10-$50 toward the purchase price.
If your organization is interested in helping promote the program to people in your area, go to https://www.fcc.gov/broadbandbenefit to sign up to be a promotional partner. ACM has registered as a partner, but we want channels across the US to support the FCC’s work on this effort.
New Virtual Meetups Added
It was good to check in with stations in Virginia and Michigan last week as we continue our PEG Meetups Next week, we’ll continue the series with Meetups in Illinois and Minnesota.
We’ll get together with PEG stations in Illinois on Wednesday, February 24 at 10:30am CT and with Minnesota stations that same day (2/24) at Noon CT.
If you want coordinates for these Meetups or others ACM is coordinating, contact us at info@allcommunitymedia.org
2020 Election Cycle
ACM is trying to document voter registration efforts by members in the 2020 Election cycle. If your organization promoted voter registration drives and voter information programs, we want to know about it. Send us a quick description and links to video at info@allcommunitymedia.org but the end of this month.
Happy Frederick Douglass Day!
It’s one day late, but I’d like to wish you a Happy Frederick Douglass Day.
Douglass was perhaps the most famous American in the 19th Century – he was certainly the most photographed. But like many former slaves in America, he didn’t know his birthday. So St. Valentine’s Day, became the day of his choice to celebrate. I know today is officially President’s Day in the US, but I somehow find a celebration of the freedom we choose to be more heart-warming.
