PEG Channels Responding to Local Needs

One of the most encouraging things I’ve seen from the Covid-19 crisis is how PEG organizations are responding to local needs – it’s a part of our DNA. The immediacy of the crisis has spurred innovation across the country.

Take for example what’s going on at Akaku on the Hawaiian islands of Maui and Molokai.  The station is now combining Governor and Mayor announcement for their county with correspondent reports, interviews and daily news updates to produce The Maui Daily. Here’s an example from this past Friday.

That project and others may be eligible for emergency support funding.

The Facebook Journalism Project is accepting applications this week for Covid-19 relief grants. Channels that are doing local emergency coverage would be eligible for grants of $25,000-$100,000.  View the application here.
