President's Message | January 14, 2020

Congratulations Alan Bushong!

What song are you going to sing with Alan Bushong?

Alan’s retiring this year after 30 years of service as Executive Director of CCTV in Salem, Oregon this year.  Before that, Alan was a formative presence at what was Austin Community Television in Austin, Texas.

Over the years in between he has been a consistent and dedicated presence on ACM’s national and regional Boards of Directors.  I jokingly call him the Energizer Bunny of Access Media (he keeps going and going and going) – but really he’s dedicated to something he loves and believes in, so that’s where his secret energy comes from!

Here’s a nice profile of Alan in the local Salem newspaper.

I’m suggesting that you can’t eulogize the man, because he tells me he’s going to keep volunteering for ACM – so I’m asking you two things:  1) Think of a song to sing at Karaoke with Alan afterhours at the ACM National Conference in Chicago this summer, and 2) consider good people who can apply to carry on the tradition of leadership at CCTV as Executive Director.  The deadline to apply is February 6.

Emerging Leaders Institute

And speaking of leadership, consider reserving a spot for the ACM Foundation’s Emerging Leadership Institute, which will be taking place at the Chicago Conference on June 28 & 29.  The Institute will be led again by Paula Manley and Toni Tabora Roberts and is intended for community media folks who are new to leadership or are on the cusp of becoming leaders.

Interested? Contact me at and I can tell you more.
