ACM Day on the Hill Event & Board Meeting in March

The ACM Board of Directors will be meeting in Washington, DC on Thursday, March 14th and we are coordinating a Day on the Hill for the Board and all ACM members on Wednesday, March 13th.

We are setting up Hill visits to see members of the House and Senate for all ACM members who want to join us that day.  It's important with the new Congress for us to educate new members about the importance of our work.  It's doubly important to be asking all members of the House of Representatives to provide oversight for the FCC. ACM will be coordinating visits to the FCC on that day as well.

We think it's vital for ACM members to contact Congress right now.   That's why we have set up the web petition page.

And it's why I am asking all ACM members to contact their regional Congressional offices in the House to ask Congress to express their disapproval or concern about what the FCC is proposing with its rule-making on cable franchising fees. I can give you sample letters to ask members of Congress to emulate.

If you CAN make it DC on Wednesday, March 13th, you can be in direct contact with staff in Congressional offices who provide advice for your House and Senate members. Sometimes these folks are not connected closely with the district or state, so your local knowledge and expertise in matters is key for them. You are also showing your commitment to your community and industry when you make that visit.

We will provide supplementary materials and training for folks who can join us on March 13 - I just need to know if you will join us!   Email me by March 1 at mwassenaar@allcommunitymedia.org.

If you can't join us in DC?  Well, you're making that call your local House office, right?

Hometown Media Awards Deadline Approaching

We've been fielding a lot of questions from members about the Hometown Media Awards competition. The deadline for entry is a week from Friday, March 1st .

If you or your organization wants to be a judge for the competition during the month of March, please contact Katie Benson at kbenson@allcommunitymedia.org and your name will be entered in a raffle for a $100 discount on your National Conference registration costs.

Also, let Katie know, too, if you don't have your member discount code for FilmFreeway where the competition is being hosted.

Good luck!

Antoine Haywood Joins ACM as COMPASS Fellow

I'm pleased to announce that Antoine Haywood, who is in the doctoral program at the Annenberg School in Philadelphia, will be joining ACM as a COMPASS Fellow in Washington DC this summer.  The program supports graduate students from around the country who are working on telecommunications policy.  We're lucky to have him on board!
