ACM Joins Others for FCC Appeal

The Alliance for Community Media joined with municipalities, cable commissions and other groups to file an appeal of the FCC’s so-called “in-kind” order on cable franchising this last week in DC District Court.   We expect that other cities and counties and even states will join suit against the Commission this month fighting the FCC’s interpretation of the law,  its negative impacts on communities and to protect community channels like yours.

The next step for our suit will be a transfer to the Ninth Circuit Court which has standing in the case because of the initial legal filing by the City of Eugene, OR.    The FCC is trying to force the case to go to a different circuit they believe will be more favorable to their positions.     We will keep you posted on developments and arguments in the case in coming weeks.

And thank you to all our members who have supported the legal defense with their contributions to our Public Policy Fund.   Please let me know if you are interested in making a contribution to the Fund this fall.
The deadline for proposals for sessions and speakers at the ACM National Conference is this Friday November 1.  Please send me your suggestions and ideas as this helps strengthen the schedule for the conference, which of course is taking place in Chicago June 29-July 2 (so mark your calendars for that as well!).
And I hope you are planning to attend the North East Regional Conference in Portland ME on Thursday and Friday.   There’s still time to register – find out more and look at the line up for the event at
