Reply Comments for FCC’s Rulemaking on Cable Franchising Due on December 14th

December 4, 2018

The deadline for Reply Comments in the FCC’s rulemaking on cable franchising is fast approaching. It’s a week from Friday on December 14th.

ACM is asking members to file Reply Comments in support of the legal arguments we and our allies have presented and outline the value you provide cable customers, local organizations and your communities. If you haven’t filed comments in the proceeding, you can still file Reply Comments. We will provide templates you can adapt and send in to the Commission.

Along with that, we’ve also drafted sample letters that elected officials and faith organizations can use. Just let me know that you want them by emailing mwassenaar@allcommunitymedia.org.

Congress & the FCC Rulemaking Proceeding

I spent part of last week following up on questions from members of Congress who heard from you that the proceeding was important and that the FCC should not be undermining the will of Congress.

Please continue letting members of the US House and Senate know about the rule-making proceeding and ask them to express their disapproval of the FCC’s actions. If you need assistance doing this, let me know.

We’ll talk about the effort on the ACM Monthly Public Policy Briefing Call this Thursday, December 6 at 4pm ET. The call is open to all ACM members, so if you want to be on the monthly invite list, please let me know at mwassenaar@allcommunitymedia.org.

I’ve also received some separate requests from ACM members to talk about how new FCC rules could affect their operations or their states – let me know if you want to have a more detailed discussion about what the proposed “In-Kind” rules could mean for your community and your operations.

#Giving Tuesday Recap

A big thank you to the 30 donors who gave last week on #GivingTuesday to support next year’s Community Media Emerging Leaders Institute which will be a two-day intensive workshop to support and train upcoming leaders in our field.

The good news is that while we didn’t meet our giving goal for the Institute, our matching donors have all agreed to hold over their $1,500 in gifts to match contributions made to the Foundation of the ACM before January 1.

So go to https://www.mightycause.com/story/Wzrdwe to help us make that challenge gift to support leadership development in 2019!

Public Policy Contributions

Another thank you goes out to all the organizations who have been making public policy contributions to ACM as we head towards the end of the year.

Those donations will help us as we work with the new Congress, which has a new majority leading the House Energy and Commerce Committee and a record number of new members in the House and Senate. It will help in the fight on the FCC proceeding in 2019.

Go to www.allcommunitymedia.org/donateacm to make that contribution for your organization and your community!

Thank you!
