ALLIANCE FOR COMMUNITY MEDIA
ELECTS KARLA SALDAÑA AS EO CHAIR
OF THE NATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Saldaña Named Chair of Equal Opportunity Committee
(McLean, VA, August 24, 2011) – The Alliance for Community Media (ACM) is pleased to announce that Karla Saldaña was elected to serve in the capacity of Chair of the Equal Opportunity Committee for the ACM National Board of Directors. The elections were held during last month’s Alliance for Community Media International Conference & Exhibition.
Saldaña has served on the ACM National Board of Directors for two and a half years. The role of the Equal Opportunity Committee is to ascertain that the ACM’s membership is diverse and inclusive, and that ACM develops new programs and services to support diversity.
Saldaña is the Training Director at channelAustin in Austin, Texas, where she is charting the course for channelAustin to be one of Austin’s premiere digital media training centers. As lead trainer, she has a role in everything from hands-on courses in HD cameras to fully HD Television Studios and Specialty Training. Saldaña has directed several projects for channelAustin, including five years of EXSE Spoken Word Showcases. Saldaña’s volunteer work includes directing Bendicion Musical, a successful television ministry and multi-media production company. Fluent in the Spanish language, Saldaña has also translated various projects for radio, television and theatre. She has produced and hosted a Spanish language television and radio program for 15 years.
“Karla Saldaña has provided strong leadership to the ACM, and we are thrilled that she has taken on the important role of EO Chair,” said Sylvia Strobel, ACM Executive Director. “Community media centers have a great track record of making sure that local, diverse voices are represented behind-the-scenes as well as on-the-air. Under Karla’s leadership, ACM will work to sustain this positive trend and support diversity in community media centers.”
