Weekly News From the President: Capitol Hill Day in DC
ACM hosted 30 members from around the country last week for our ACM Capitol Hill Day event. In all, ACM visited 35 offices in the Senate, House and the FCC, pressing the importance of PEG for local communities, the need for technical fairness for our channels, and the need to ensure local media is preserved and strengthened in the future.
A special concern in the U.S. Senate we talked about is draft language in the Commerce Committee on the deployment of 5G wireless technologies. The draft would harm local franchising authorities and would permanently limit the support available to PEG through the franchising process. Our members pressed the issue with Senators and their staff. We will be issuing a Legislative Alert this week for you to contact your Senate offices on the issue.
If you want to join other ACM members on Capitol Hill in the coming year, please plan to join us at the National Conference in Baltimore in July…we’ll be organizing Hill visits in DC during the Conference!
Thanks to the National League of Cities for hosting the orientation session and being a great partner of community media organizations across the United States!
A big thanks to all the members who joined us in DC this last week!
