Weekly News from the President: Thankful
This time of year is a time of reflection for many of us – whether it was at Thanksgiving last week, or as we gather for the holidays with family, or make plans for the New Year ahead. For me, it’s also a time to give to causes we care about and for which I feel gratitude.
I’m thankful for all the things working in community media has provided me; the connections, knowledge and friendships I’ve gained by being a part of the Alliance for Community Media over this last decade; and the opportunity this past year to work for people across the United States as President of the Alliance.
It’s with a sense of gratitude that I give money to the ACM Foundation, which supports scholarships and educational opportunities for young people in our field and those people who may have limited resources to deepen their professional development.
This past year, the Brian Wilson Scholarship helped Kelsey Christensen at the University of Minnesota continue her studies, and ACM supported the professional development of Zeb Schmidt of Schenectady, NY and Dana Sahae of Millbrae, CA.
We want to expand those opportunities for more people in the coming year – and for many years to come – so I’m asking you to consider making a tax-deductible gift this year to the ACM Foundation. And, if it’s easier for you, you can make your gift as a recurring donation.

Specials, We Got Specials
We’re hearing from organizations that are taking advantage of the special membership promotion going on through January 31. New or lapsed organizations will have their membership extended an extra four months when they join during the promotion period. If you’re an individual member who would like to extend membership benefits to other staff and board members, or you know an organization that should be a part of ACM, now is the time to join! You can join online or access membership forms at http://www.allcommunitymedia.org/join.
We also know a lot of people who have put the ACM National Conference in Boston August 18-20, 2016 on their calendar…and as a special benefit; we’re opening up early-bird registration starting next week that’s good until the end of December. Take advantage of a lower registration rate – with remaining 2015 budget year funds if you operate on a calendar year, and join us in Boston!!
And I’m hoping you’ll join us for our webinar on Applications and Community Media, Tuesday 12/1 at 3:30pm ET. There’s still time to register here: https://www.anymeeting.com/AccountManager/RegEv.aspx?PIID=EC52DE8787493D Use the discount code INDMEMBER or ORGMEMBER to get the ACM Member discount!
