Weekly News from the President- Meeting with Congress

ACM members are continuing our Congressional outreach campaign this spring. As part of that work, I am asking members to reach out to members of Congress and plan visits to district offices in March and April.

The House of Representatives will be in recess the week of March 9th and both the House and the Senate will be on break March 30th through April 10th. This is an ideal time to set up local visits with Members of Congress and their staff.  Our goal is to raise awareness about the work that’s done by PEG community media at the local level, and to ask Congress to protect and strengthen community media in the new Congressional session.

I’m looking for members who can spend some time those weeks talking with their district offices, and I’d like you to volunteer to help. We’ll provide talking points, support materials and training, but it’s up to members like you to show off the importance of the work we do in the field.

If you want to volunteer, please contact your local district office for an appointment to talk about PEG community media, and let me know so we can provide the logistic support. Or if you want some coaching about what to do, contact me at or call 612-298-3805.

It’s your voice that will make community media stronger. I’d love to hear it be a part of our campaign!

As you’re looking at your calendars and planning for this summer, be sure to put all three days of the Alliance National Conference and Trade Show on your calendar:  August 12-14 in at the Pasadena Hilton, in Pasadena, California.

The first day will focus on deep dive learning and demonstrations by vendors at our trade show; the second day will feature workshops, demonstrations and our Hometown Awards; and the third day will culminate in our national Awards ceremony luncheon.

I’m really excited about how this year’s Conference is coming together. Be sure to save the date and join us all three days in Pasadena!

And here’s a quick social media reminder:  Follow me on Twitter @mikewassenaar for updates on community media each day, and like ACM on Facebook if you’re part of the FB crowd for updates throughout the week!
