Weekly News from the President: Keep Them Coming!
Keep Them Coming!
Posted: October 5, 2015
In the last month, over 50 organizations and communities around the country have filed ex parte letters with the FCC about the Notice of Proposed Rule Making on Over the Top Video providers and Multichannel Video (MB 14-261). What’s at stake?
We need to make sure the FCC doesn’t set up an incentive for the cable industry to undercut its public interest commitments – including franchise fees and PEG. Comments from communities have been thoughtful and represent the impact our work in community media – and they are helping to underscore the message that the Commission shouldn’t harm localism and strengthening our case.
We are hearing there may be an order in the rule-making late this Fall and since we are in the ex parte phase, there is no deadline for you contacting the Commission…but you need to be heard! Please let me know at firstname.lastname@example.org if you want instructions and a template letter to file an ex parte in the docket!
ACM Video Available to Share
It is great to hear from PEG channels around the country that are airing and sharing the ACM Video “The Power of Community.” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obL9cI73doQ) We’d like members to share the video on their website and on their channels to help tell the story of community media’s impact and our need to protect it. Besides the YouTube version, you can find HD and SD versions and short and long version on the Internet Archive here: https://archive.org/details/fav-alliance_for_community_media
And let me know if you’re airing the videos!
Visit to MSP
I’ll be meeting with ACM member organizations in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis – Saint Paul this coming week. I’m looking forward to seeing the work going on in my hometown, talk with community media leaders about the needs they have for the future, and meet with future leaders in our field! I’ll share some updates next week….
