Weekly News From the President: Join Us in Boston
Join Us in Boston
Posted: February 8, 2016
I hope you join us this summer in Boston as we celebrate and explore the meanings of making media that’s related to place, to our communities. It’s going to be an exciting conference!
The theme of the week? Our Town.
Our towns and cities are places of profound change. Community media finds itself in the middle of that change, whether it be technological, cultural, economic or environmental. If we choose, we can also be at the center of our communities as they ride those waves.
At the end of the day, we all have a yearning to belong, to understand our world, and to share our stories, to build community, to make a living and make a life. At our best, community media reflects the world of our towns and communities, and speak to the needs of their future.
We’ll explore that future in Boston, and I hope to see you then!
In the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, I’d like you to show your love for community media…and wear your heart on your sleeve!
We’re asking you and your friends to become sustaining donors to the ACM Foundation this week.
When you do, we’ll send you one of the “Beating Heart of Localism” t-shirts that were all the rage at last year’s ACM Conference in Pasadena!
Set up a monthly contribution of $10 or more to the ACM Foundation to support our education work, and we’ll send you the t-shirt as our valentine to you! Set up your donation today!
And thank you for supporting ACM!
We’ll talk with two documentary film programs that have started up and grown in PEG community media centers. Joining us will be Bonnie Schumacher of SPNN in St Paul, MN, who’ll talk about the DocU program, which is now entering its fifth year; and the staff of BRIC in Brooklyn, NY, who will talk about their new Documentary Intensive Program, which has just completed its first installment. Come with your questions, and pick up tips for how you and your center can grow documentary training at your center.
