Weekly News from the President: Feeding the Roots
It’s springtime, and while I don’t want to sound too much like a lawn care product salesperson (picture my Scottish accent while I bray about a major commercial fertilizer), I do want to ask you to consider Grassroots…
By which I mean, ACM Grassroots scholarships! We are opening up the competition for scholarships to attend the ACM National Conference in Boston August 18-20.
We want to encourage as many people as possible to attend the conference (registration will open next month), and we are hoping to see a diverse group of attendees representing community media from all corners of the country.
The Grassroots Scholarships typically go to people who may not be able to otherwise attend the Conference – so I particularly want to encourage folks from small and rural organizations who may not have a lot of resources to consider applying. You can get applications here. The deadline to apply is June 6.
To encourage more people to attend the conference, we’ve set up a crowdfunding campaign to support the scholarship fund. I know from talking to Grassroots award winners in year’s past, the opportunity to attend the National Conference has been profound. You can see some of their stories and give to the Fund to support other people in community media by going to https://www.gofundme.com/n8vhanbu
Won’t you make a donation to support the Grassroots in our field?
(Go ahead, feed it!)
Be sure to sign up for next week’s webinar Wednesday, April 27th at 3:30pm ET on LPFM and PEG. We’ll be talking about ways stations are expanding their footprint with low power radio, and how they can strengthen their operations. Joining us will be Sabrina Roach, Vanessa Maria Graber, Tony Shawcross and Jeff Shaw, all of whom will give tips and perspectives on how to improve your radio and audio operations.
