Weekly News From the President
I know you’re starting to plan your summer – and we want you to join us at the biggest community media gathering in the country at the ACM National Conference and Trade Show in Boston August 18-20. Registration is open now and you can get a peek at the schedule on our website and take advantage of early-bird and member discounts for the show. It’s going to be great!
It’s my goal to make sure that as many people as possible get a chance to attend an ACM national conference. It’s an unparalleled experience – you have the opportunity to meet colleagues from all parts of the country, learn about new innovations and techniques that work, test new technical gear, and become inspired by the awesome work that community media does every day – it’s promise for the future.
That’s why I’d like you to consider helping us send more people to ACM National through our Grassroots Scholarship Fund. Your gift will support community media staff and volunteers who can’t normally afford professional education or travel expenses. It will leave a lasting impression on the recipients!
We have until June 6th to raise more money for this year’s scholarships, so please make a gift at GoFundMe to help your friends and colleagues.
ACM has joined a coalition of diverse video programmers led by Free Press supporting the FCC’s attempt to create an independent Set Top Box market. At the heart of our concern: that local programs and program data can be seen on any and all navigation systems that carry PEG channels. Additionally, we’ve urged Chairman Wheeler to support minimum standards for finding programs on all navigation devices and interactive program guides that feature PEG community channels. You can see our letter to FCC Chairman Wheeler here.
I’ll be attending a couple of NATOA regional gatherings in the next few weeks. Let me know if you’re attending either the New Jersey or Southern California events coming up so I can say “Hello”!
