Weekly News From the President: Join the FCC’s Advisory Committee on Diversity and Digital Empowerment
Join the FCC’s Advisory Committee on Diversity and Digital Empowerment
The FCC is accepting nominations to its Advisory Committee on Diversity and Digital Empowerment. The Advisory Committee will serve for two years and will meet regularly in Washington DC. Its mission is to provide recommendations to the FCC on how to empower disadvantaged communities and accelerate the entry of small businesses, including those owned by women and minorities, into the media, digital news and information, and audio and video programming industries, including as owners, suppliers, and employees.
If you are interested in serving on the committee, I encourage you to put forward an application, which is due on Wednesday, June 28. It’s important that we articulate the principals that drive community media work to policymakers. This will be a good forum for that type of communication.
Strategic Planning Webinar this Wednesday
I hope you’ll join me this Wednesday at 3:00 pm ET for the ACM webinar on Strategic Planning. We’ll talk about different approaches with consultant Paula Manley and then get a case study from Karen George of QCTV in Champlin, MN about how strategic planning worked for her organization. Come with your questions, and even invite board members to join us!
The webinar is free to organizational members; you can still sign up here.
Remembrance of Dottie Grover
I’m sorry to hear that longtime New Hampshire community media organizer Dottie Grover has passed away. Dottie worked with the Town of Londonderry for close to 30 years, and was a focal presence for organizing the state’s channels. I always appreciated her willingness to connect with other people to help them out, and I hope that spirit lives on in our work together. Thanks, Dottie.
