Open Position: Production Director

Summary
Responsible for the technical equipment and technical support for production and distribution of programs produced at Midland Community Television. Responsible for the access user training elements. Produces and directs municipal video productions. Assists in the production and direction of public access productions. The employee in this class reports directly to the Manager of MCTV, with responsibility for equipment, access user training, and production. The work in this class involves considerable public contact, providing training and technical advice and support to volunteers on programming, equipment utilization and other matters connected with the production of finished programs.

Job Responsibilities
Produces live and specialized cablecast productions. Coordinates equipment set-up and ensures proper function, determines appropriate studio set-up, assigns and directs crew, instructs director on program content and provides trouble-shooting support to crew and director. Directs live and specialized cablecast productions. Instructs crews on camera shots and determines final content. Designs and executes training programs on equipment operation, portable camera use, non-linear editing and production techniques. Trains and coaches volunteers, interns and work study students; leads electronic field productions. Coordinates moving and set-up of equipment for off-location recordings, operates and maintains head-end for three access channels featuring video servers, encoders, web-based automation systems and message board software programs. Provides on-call support for Midland County Central Dispatch emergency message board alert system. Operates and maintains multi-user non-linear edit storage server and editors. Responsible for technical requirements of public and municipal video-on-demand services. Designs equipment systems and lighting plans. Determines configuration and placement of new equipment and modification of existing equipment systems. Maintains, modifies and makes minor repairs to equipment. Advises Manager of MCTV when to have outside contractor make major repairs. Writes material, edits programs and provides creative support for cablecast productions. Designs and builds sets. Researches equipment based upon studio needs and recommends purchases. Assists in implementation of MCTV Network social media plan. Oversees staff in absence of the Manager of MCTV.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Qualifications – Experience and Training: Possession of a Bachelors Degree in Telecommunications or similar field with two years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of community access for video productions. Thorough knowledge of video and related equipment. Thorough knowledge of video production techniques, including non-linear editing. Thorough knowledge of electronics, and digital video and audio signals. Ability to make determinations on equipment repair. Ability to design and implement equipment plans. Good judgment, tact, and courtesy in dealing with the public and other employees. Ability to communicate technical information both written and verbal. Physical ability to stand/sit in a fixed position for a prolonged period of times. Physical ability to carry up to 50 pounds of equipment to and from fixed locations.

Additional Requirement: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the State of Michigan and have a good driving record.
