Congresswoman Lofgren to Address Alliance for Community Media Youth Media Summit

Digital News Literacy Training Event September 25 in San Jose, CA

(McLean, VA, September 17, 2012) –  The Foundation of the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) is pleased to announce that the Honorable Zoe Lofgren will provide remarks to attendees of ACM’s Youth Media Summit on September 25, 2012. ACM will hold the second of four National Youth Media Summits at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library in San Jose, CA from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The summit addresses funding, education, and policy and community building issues as they relate to digital and news literacy training for San Jose youth.

“We are delighted Congresswoman Lofgren will join us at the upcoming Youth Media Summit,” said ACM Executive Director Sylvia Strobel. “In 2011, the FCC emphasized the need for more digital literacy training and increased transparency of government and other civic institutions, with community media centers uniquely positioned to address this challenge.”

Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren has represented California’s sixteenth district since 1995. She is serving her ninth term in Congress representing most of the City of San Jose and Santa Clara County. She serves as Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security, and International Law. She is the Ranking Member of the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight and serves on the House Science and Technology Committee. Congresswoman Lofgren is also Chair of the California Democratic Congressional Delegation consisting of 34 Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives from California.

In addition to the San Jose Summit, symposiums are also planned for Minneapolis/St. Paul, and a fourth site in 2013 to be determined. The first summit was held in Philadelphia in May 2012.

This event is free to members of the community, but registration is required and space is limited. To register, please visit http://tinyurl.com/acmsanjose or www.allcommunitymedia.org.
