Alliance for Community Media Names Mike Wassenaar as President

Mike W photoMINNEAPOLIS–The Alliance for Community Media (ACM) and the Foundation of the Alliance for Community Media (FACM) today announced Mr. Mike Wassenaar as the first President of both organizations, according to Ms. Keri Stokstad, Chair of the organizations’ Board of Directors.

“This has been an exceptional year of building and growth for the F/ACM and we’re delighted to have Mr. Wassenaar as our first president,” said Ms. Stokstad, who is also Executive Director for Pasadena Media, the PEG network in Pasadena, Calif.

“Our annual conference in Philadelphia was a huge success and we’re looking forward to next year’s conference in Pasadena,” Ms. Stokstad said. “Our new management company and staff have greatly improved our conferences and member services and Mike’s new role will allow us to more fully utilize his proven strengths in fundraising and public policy to continue building a strong national organization that will influence media policy and support our members’ needs.”

Mr. Wassenaar previously had been the ACM’s Public Policy Advocate and will now take on a broader role in fund development and outreach to further elevate the premier professional organizations’ status representing Public/Community, Education and Government (PEG) cable access TV stations and producers across the country.

Mr. Wassenaar has a long history of industry experience, including work as the Senior Development Director at Free Press in Washington, D.C., as the Executive Director at St. Paul Neighborhood Network in St. Paul, Minnesota, and as the Program and News Director at KFAI Fresh Air Community Radio, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

“I believe passionately in the power of community media and PEG television to inform and enlighten people,” states Mr. Wassenaar, who has been actively involved in the ACM since 2004. “I am looking forward to strengthening community television stations around the U.S. and to fight for community and local government interests in Washington DC.”
