Alliance for Community Media Announces New, Separate Board for the Foundation
Minneapolis – Nov. 7, 2016 – After four years of sharing a leadership board with the Alliance for Community Media (ACM), the Foundation of the ACM (F/ACM) has established its own Board of Directors.
The 2016-17 Board of Director will include the 2016-17 officers of the ACM Board, holding the same officer positions, and six additional directors at large:
• Antoine Haywood, Philadelphia Community Access Media
• Shelley Wolfe, Philadelphia Public Schools TV (PSTV)
• Matt Schuster, TV Santa Barbara
• Jo Ellen Kaiser, The Media Consortium
• Sabrina Roach, Brown Paper Tickets
• Steven Renderos, Center for Media Justice
The ACM/FACM Nominations Committee took responsibility for seeking out candidates with the capability to serve on the new board while supporting F/ACM’s goals and mission. To prove their commitment and integrity, candidates were required to submit a resume, cover letter and answer questions regarding accomplishments on previous non-profit organization experiences.
The Nominations Committee presented their recommendations to the ACM’s Board during their August meeting in Boston. The slate was accepted and presented to ACM’s membership during the Annual Membership Meeting on August 19th at the annual conference.
Antoine Haywood, Philadelphia Community Access Media, and Shelley Wolfe, Philadelphia Public Schools TV, will transition from the ACM to the F/ACM Board beginning in November. Both Haywood and Wolfe have long time experience and specialties for fundraising, including writing grants, proposals, and organizing giving campaigns. All vital skills needed for fostering a new board. “I view it as a way for us to connect with scholars, organizers, practitioners, media makers and funders who are not currently involved in our work, but should be,” Haywood stated about his transition and new focus on the F/ACM.
The 2017 F/ACM board will hold their first in-person meeting on November 14th 9:00am-4:30pm at the Minneapolis Marriott Hotel in Minneapolis, MN. The Board of ACM will meet on November 13th and will elect officers at its meeting who will then be appointed to the Foundation Board as well.
