Project Manager – Access Humboldt
Location: Eureka, CA
Primary Responsibilities:
Under direction from the Executive Director and with support from other staff members, the Project Manager will help to centrally coordinate and expand the youth media education program, by building capacity at Access Humboldt , developing new programs, and with partner non-profit organizations serving low-income residents of Humboldt County. The Project Manager will be part of a regional three-member team of VISTAs working in collaboration with two other community media centers — Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC) in San Francisco, CA and the Community Media Access Partnership (CMAP) in Gilroy, California.
The three Project Managers will receive several weeks of training and will work together across three of Northern California’s most innovative community media centers to build the centers’ capacity, develop curriculum and programs, implement community training programs, and share best practices among the partner organizations and the broader community media field.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES will include the following:
Youth Media Education Program Development
Organize community workshops and media production programs for public access television, with an emphasis on media and technology programs serving targeted groups of low-income youth and adults. Plan, schedule logistics, market, recruit and register participants; train and mentor youth attendees post-workshop and throughout the year. Plan, recruit and teach media and technology trainings for local nonprofit staff, to internal AH staff and instructors, and to low-income adults and youth.
Social Enterprise & Fund Development
Conduct ongoing community needs assessments to inform plans for new services, fundraising and community outreach. This process will include facilitating focus groups, following up with interested community members, contacting potential donors, organizing special fundraising events, making recommendations for program partners and new services, writing a business plan, and entering data for new contacts. Research and act upon funding opportunities, including grants, developing social enterprise services, and other capacity-building work to sustain activities beyond the VISTA member’s year of service.
Volunteer/Outreach Management
Develop and implement an outreach plan to reach and retain new volunteers, community producers and youth participants.
Regional Collaboration
Share outreach plans, fundraising opportunities, youth media curriculum and best practices with regional community media centers and their VISTAs; maintain ongoing collaboration among the centers.
Experience Required:
Our VISTA member should have a college degree, with a background in communications, volunteer management, media arts and technology skills, experience working directly with diverse populations in a non-profit or other social justice setting, and above all else, an extremely high level of motivation and desire to engage with people from many walks of life. Specifically, the candidate should have some video production and post-production experience, a patient, friendly, and hard-working attitude, and the ability to negotiate/mediate in challenging circumstances. The candidate should be a self-starter who is not afraid to pick up the phone, make connections, receive input and criticism, admit mistakes, and compromise. Other technical skills, and specifically any television, radio, or community production experience is a plus.
Access to reliable, fully insured transportation is required.

● $11,124/year living allowance (the set rate for Humboldt County.)
● VISTAs can choose to receive an academic award of $5,550 upon successful completion of their year of service, or $1500 cash. The academic award an be used to repay most federal government backed student loans and/or for future schooling at qualified institutions.
