CEO, Thurston Community Television, Olympia WA
Why are you an ACM member?
I’ve been a member since 1983. I joined because the Alliance provides me with a network of fellow community media advocates whom I often connect with for advise and professional support. The professional friendships I’ve developed with other ACM members have lifted me up when things were challenging and cheered with me when we celebrate our success. It’s a pretty special bunch of crazy cable people.
What do you enjoy about being an ACM member?
I really enjoy our gatherings at the regional and national level. It’s refreshing and invigorating to spend three or four days with other folks who are passionate about community media.
Tell us a little about yourself:
I’ve been married almost 29 years to Lex Vinsel. We share our home with two four-footed, furry kids – Magnolia and Scotty. I’m originally from Ohio and began my career in community media in 1983 at Waycross Community (Television) Media in Forest Park, just north of Cincinnati. I joined TCTV in 1990 and have spent the last 25 years working for an amazing organization with an outstanding staff and board. I’ve served in in many positions in the ACM leadership at the Regional and National level, currently the treasurer of the Northwest Region. I was deeply honored to receive the Buske Leadership Award in 1999.
I love traveling to anywhere with a white sand beach and blue water. I enjoy singing and performing and recently won the ‘Mirror Ball Trophy’ dancing a waltz in the Dancing with the South Sound Stars competition (video available at www.tctv.net).
