Communications and Special Projects Director
ampmedia (Access Monterey Peninsula) is currently seeking a Communications and Special Projects Director. This is a new position at a highly-collaborative, media arts nonprofit organization that provides vital support services to individuals, public agencies and other nonprofits in the Monterey County area. Founded in 1998, ampmedia operates five non-commercial TV and web channels and offers training in media production and technology resources to media creators.
The position will remain open until filled. Position is temporary but may become ongoing at a later date.
Job Title: Communications and Special Projects Director
Hours: Part-time, up to 20 hours per week, non-exempt. Reports to: Executive Director Summary of Responsibilities: The Communications and Special Projects Director is responsible for communications strategies and activities external to and within the organization and will work to create and implement initiatives and projects that enhance ampmedia’s mission and standing in the community.
1. Build general public awareness, viewership and participation with ampmedia as an organization and its existing programs.
2. Plan, seek resources for and implement new program initiatives in association with the Executive Director and members of the Board of Directors.
1. Document work flow and standard operating procedures for ongoing activities and processes.
2. Maintain a database of contacts (partners, users, clients, sponsors and supporters) and associated information.
TYPICAL DUTIES (others may be assigned)
*Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Board members to develop and coordinate ongoing public outreach and awareness activities and events, periodically assessing efforts and results.
*Use written work, video, social media and the organization’s website to develop and communicate with a support network, targeted groups and the community at large.
*Coordinate the efforts of available volunteers and interns in above activities.
*Archive all outside media coverage.
Special Projects and Initiatives
*Create opportunities for media arts learning and community-building through direct and virtual participation (web-based and other new media), advanced media courses, workshops, screenings and related activities.
*Ensure that ampmedia’s activities and services are aligned with constituency needs and desires.
*Take a leadership role in the development and implementation of fundraising and friend-raising events.
*Assist the Executive Director in developing program descriptions and grant narratives.
*Assist the Executive Director and Board members in other initiatives as developed through strategic planning.
*Assist the Executive Director and staff with documenting and updating all internal processes and best practices.
*Make presentations as required to the Board of Directors, community partners, funders and other stakeholders.
*Five or more years of experience working as a media and/or communications professional.
*Strong spoken and written communications skills. Writing sample is required.
*Ability to effectively use computer software and websites for completion of daily tasks.
*Video production experience including completion of one or more edited productions (documentary or narrative.) Sample work is required.
*Ability to interact positively and professionally with the community, constituents, supporters (of all kinds) and other staff.
*Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to complete tasks thoroughly, efficiently and on schedule.
*Availability to work a flex schedule that includes evening and weekend hours.
*Willingness to work within – and actively promote the activities of – an organization that may present material that is challenging and provocative, either personally or to portions of the community.
*Experience with physically challenged persons.
*Basic knowledge of website development and social media tools.
*Familiarity with Monterey County’s diverse communities and physical environment.
*Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
*Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
*Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.
*Hourly rate, commensurate with entry level community organization administrators.
*Pro-rata holidays. and other leave time (following trial employment period) based on percentage of FTE status.
